Question 1

What does Code actually do?

Accepted Answer

You give Code the address of a live web app. It writes the native configuration for you — app name, package ID, theme colours, store description — and hands you a complete Capacitor project you can build into an Android .apk, or an Xcode project for iOS.

Question 2

Do I need my source code?

Accepted Answer

No. Code packages the website you already have online, so there is nothing to rewrite and no repository to connect. If your site works in a phone browser, it works in the app.

Question 3

How do I start?

Accepted Answer

Create an account, open New app, paste your URL and optionally describe what the app does. Review the suggested configuration, save it, then download the project from the app page.

Question 4

What is a package ID and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

It is the unique identifier stores use for your app, written like com.yourcompany.app. It can never be changed once your app is published, so pick it before your first store upload.

Question 5

What do I need installed to build the .apk?

Accepted Answer

Java 17 and Android Studio on your computer. Unzip the downloaded folder, run the included setup script, then build in Android Studio. The result is app-debug.apk, which installs on any Android phone.

Question 6

Can I publish to the Google Play Store?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The project you download is a standard Capacitor project, so you create a signed release build in Android Studio and upload it like any other app. A Google Play developer account is required.

Question 7

Is iOS supported?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the iOS download gives you an Xcode project plus the archive commands that produce an .ipa. Building and submitting it needs a Mac and an Apple developer account.

Question 8

Does my app update when I change my website?

Accepted Answer

Most of the time, yes. The app loads your live site, so content and feature changes appear straight away with no new build. You only rebuild when the app name, icon, colours or package ID change.

Question 9

Can I change my app settings later?

Accepted Answer

Every app is saved to your account. Open it, edit the name, colours or description, and download a fresh project whenever you like.

Question 10

What does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Code is free to start, with no card required. The Pro plan is $39 per month for unlimited apps and downloads, and includes iOS at no extra cost.
